This supernatural horror film franchise was the brainchild of Sam Raimi and revolves around the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis, which is referenced as an ancient Sumerian text that systematically targets and possesses its victims. As far as the Necronomicon is concerned, it is pretty much contained in the four feature films, as well as the television series. Yeah, we know, the Evil Dead franchise constitutes four movies, a series, as well as a handful of crossover movies, comic books, and more–but we’re going to count it as one for the sake of this list. It’s worth a watch, even if it’s just to learn more about what the Necronomicon can do when it’s in the hands of someone who wants to destroy the world. This particular mystery is taken from Lovecraft’s novel by the same name in which Wilbur Whateley, a seemingly harmless young man, coerces a female virgin from a California University to be the vessel for the spawn of the devil.

Despite its blatant 1970s style, it has a sort of creepy charm to it. This movie never got rave reviews, but it did add to the pop-culture relevance to the history of the Necronomicon. So now we get to enjoy a plethora of movies that all have something to do with the Necronomicon–to be clear, this isn’t an exhaustive list of where the Necronomicon appears within pop-culture, but these are some of the most memorable! The Dunwich Horror (1970) Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993).The page is accompanied by a hand signed certificate of authenticity from artist Tom Sullivan.Īn exceptionally rare and highly desirable artefact from this cult horror franchise. The page measures approximately 8" x 6.25" and remains in generally excellent production used condition with some light edge and corner wear, overall very fine. This page was hand painted by Tom Sullivan and is accomplished on intentionally distressed paper which has been aged with paint, it features an illustration based on a conceptual design of the Rotten Apple Head with various symbols to create ancient style text. For the production several pages were created by effects designer, animator and artist Tom Sullivan and used in several scenes during the movie including when Ash (Bruce Campbell) and Annie (Sarah Berry) examine the pages before Jake (Dan Hicks) throws them in the cellar and later as Ash retrieves them and Annie reads the incantation when the Rotten Apple Head appears in the climatic sequence. This is one of the original lost pages from the Necronmicon Ex- Mortis or The Book of the Dead, the central plot device of the Evil Dead franchise. An original prop used in the production of Evil Dead II, the 1987 comedy horror sequel directed by Sam Raimi.
